Posted Article No. 53093

The Yeonsu 3-dong (연수3동) Community Council (Chair Min Eun-deok (민은덕)) in Yeonsu-gu (연수구), Incheon, held the “Wear Our Love” (사랑을 입어요) sharing event on the 16th, delivering rayon loungewear to vulnerable groups in the community ahead of the summer heat. Sets of loungewear tops and bottoms, hand-made over three months since April by students of the Community Service Center’s sewing class, were distributed in turn to roughly 50 vulnerable households.

The project was organized as a lifelong-learning, resident-participation service initiative in which students of the Community Service Center’s sewing class program put their sewing skills to use helping neighbors in need.

Members of ‘Sarang Sewing Class’ (사랑미싱클래스), a talent-donation club made up of students from the Yeonsu 3-dong (연수3동) Community Service Center’s sewing course, took part together with community council members.

From cutting fabric to sewing, over three months since April

From April through July, participants gathered weekly in the sewing room to handle everything from cutting fabric to machine-sewing, making sets of premium summer rayon loungewear tops and bottoms.

The finished loungewear was delivered in turn, along with warm comfort, to about 50 vulnerable households.

Chair Min Eun-deok (민은덕): “A community where learning, sharing and service reinforce one another”

Community Council Chair Min Eun-deok (민은덕) said, “I’m grateful to the members of ‘Sarang Sewing Class’ (사랑미싱클래스) and the community council members who put in the sweat every week at the sewing machines, even in the hot weather, to put their love for their neighbors into practice.”

She added, “We will continue building a happy Yeonsu 3-dong (연수3동) community through various resident-participation programs where learning, sharing and service create a virtuous cycle.”
