The Residents’ Autonomy Council (주민자치회) of Mansu 1-dong, Namdong-gu (남동구), Incheon, announced on the 29th that it had successfully concluded the in-person ballot on community agenda items at the General Assembly of Residents, held on June 24 to enthusiastic participation from local citizens.

The in-person vote is a key procedure in realizing grassroots self-governance, in which residents themselves determine the priority of community agenda items they have proposed through a direct yes-or-no ballot. The event drew broad interest and strong turnout from the community.

Members of the Residents’ Autonomy Council, local civic organizations, and area residents gathered at the polling site, generating a lively atmosphere. Voting was conducted on a total of four community agenda items.

The items put to a vote covered a wide range of issues closely tied to daily life: ▲ installation of shade canopies over benches at community rest areas; ▲ the ‘Together with Filial Piety (함께 해孝)’ 70th- and 80th-birthday celebration event; ▲ a gochujang (고추장) sharing cultural festival; and ▲ a winter heating-support program for vulnerable households.

Hwang Hyeon-suk (황현숙), head of Mansu 1-dong, said, ‘Through this in-person vote, residents took direct ownership of deliberating and deciding on community agenda items — it was a truly meaningful occasion that reaffirmed the genuine value of participatory self-governance.’
