The Mansu 5-dong Administrative Welfare Center in Namdong-gu, Incheon, announced on the 28th that it is carrying out a kimjang kimchi support project together with the Mansu 5-dong Community Social Security Council to help low-income and vulnerable residents in the area get through the winter. The project was funded with 3.5 million won from the dong welfare fund of the Community Chest of Korea. Ahead of the winter season, it aims to ease the burden of purchasing food ingredients for low-income households and help stabilize their diets by providing kimjang kimchi, an essential side dish.

The kimjang kimchi will be delivered to 100 low-income households, 10 kilograms each. In particular, for recipients with limited mobility, staff will visit their homes to deliver the kimchi while also checking on their living conditions and well-being. Through this, the center plans to ease the economic burden on residents while looking after neighbors in need of winter care, thereby strengthening the community’s welfare safety net.
Cha Jung-eun, the civilian chairperson of the Mansu 5-dong Community Social Security Council, said, “Ahead of the winter season, I feel it is meaningful to be able to deliver kimjang kimchi, an essential food item, to our neighbors,” adding, “We will work even harder to expand the practice of sharing together with the community, centered on the dong Community Social Security Council.” An Gang-suk, head of Mansu 5-dong, said, “I hope this kimjang kimchi support project will be of some small help to low-income residents in spending a warm winter,” and added, “We will continue to pursue customized welfare projects that residents can genuinely feel the benefit of.”
