Cinema Space Juan, an art-house theater in Michuhol-gu District, will hold a ‘4K Remastered Classics Special Screening’ beginning July 2. The event offers a chance to revisit two enduring classics on the big screen with sharper picture quality and vivid sound. The lineup features ‘The Piano,’ winner of the Palme d’Or at the Cannes Film Festival, and ‘Hula Girls,’ which returns in a 4K remaster to mark the 20th anniversary of its release.

‘The Piano’ is a signature work by director Jane Campion. It was the first film by a female director to win the Palme d’Or at Cannes, and it earned critical acclaim at major international film festivals, taking both the Palme d’Or and the best actress award at the 46th Cannes Film Festival and winning three Academy Awards. The screening offers a chance to once again experience the film’s distinctive visual beauty and Michael Nyman’s music in the theater.
‘Hula Girls’ is based on a true story from a Japanese coal-mining town in the 1960s. It depicts the story of girls who take up hula dancing to revive a village facing the threat of mine closure. A representative work by Korean-Japanese director Lee Sang-il, the special screening marks the first domestic release of the 4K remastered director’s cut version commemorating the 20th anniversary of the film’s release. Audiences will see an extended version running about 10 minutes longer than the original theatrical release.

An official from Cinema Space Juan said, “We arranged this special screening so that classics beloved over many years can be enjoyed once again on the theater screen,” adding, “We will offer a special film experience with images and sound made even more vivid through remastering.”
The special screening runs from July 2 to 8 at Cinema Space Juan. Information on screening times, ratings, and ticketing and admission fees for each film can be found on the Cinema Space Juan website (www.cinespacejuan.com). By reviving world-renowned classics at a local art-house theater, the screening is expected to give residents an opportunity to broaden their cultural experience at a nearby theater.
