Yeonsu-gu Wins Grand Prize for Incheon Region at 2025 Local Government ESG Assessment

Rated ‘Excellent’ in Social and Governance Categories; Recognized for Community-Centered Administrative Achievements

Yeonsu-gu (연수구), led by District Chief Lee Jae-ho (이재호), has won the grand prize for the Incheon region at the ‘2025 Local Government Sustainable Development ESG Assessment,’ organized by the ESG Happy Economy Research Institute (ESG 행복경제연구소).

The assessment covered 226 basic local governments nationwide and evaluated their administrative policies and ESG compliance across three categories — Environment (E), Social (S), and Governance (G) — comprising 60 indicators and 106 sub-items, spanning the period from 2024 through August 2025.

Yeonsu-gu earned an ‘Excellent (A)’ rating in both the Social (S) and Governance (G) categories, receiving high marks for embedding ESG values throughout its administration and for its sustained efforts toward sustainable regional development.

Notably, the district became the first in Incheon to establish a legal basis for cracking down on unauthorized rally banners and introduced direct towing of illegally abandoned shared electric scooters, demonstrating its commitment to regulatory reform and community-centered governance aimed at resolving residents’ everyday inconveniences.

In health and safety, the district elevated the quality of local public health services by establishing a Smart Healthcare Center (스마트 헬스케어 센터) and, for the first time in Incheon City, appointing a civilian physician as director of the public health center.

The district has also been recognized as an outstanding institution in the Safe Korea Drill (안전한국훈련) assessment and in disaster management evaluations, continuing its efforts to build a city where residents can feel secure.

Additionally, Yeonsu-gu was selected as a ‘Top-Performing Institution’ for three consecutive years in the Ministry of the Interior and Safety’s (행정안전부) fiscal analysis evaluation, earning recognition for sound financial management. The district has also practiced open communication by running programs such as community dialogue concerts, apartment residents’ forums, and school-visit communication classes to incorporate residents’ firsthand voices into policy.

District Chief Lee Jae-ho stated, ‘This ESG assessment result reflects the steady efforts Yeonsu-gu has made toward becoming a sustainable city,’ and added, ‘Going forward, we will continue to strengthen regional sustainability through proactive governance grounded in ESG values and pursue practical policies that residents can truly feel.’
