The Guwol 1-dong (구월1동) Community Service Center in Namdong-gu (남동구), Incheon, announced on the 14th that it held promotional and informational training on the “Summer Disaster and Safety Hazard Intensive Reporting System” for members of its neighborhood chiefs’ association (통장자율회) on the 9th, aimed at preventing summer natural disasters and safety accidents.

Pre-Identifying Hazards During Ministry of Interior and Safety’s Intensive Reporting Period

The training was organized to coincide with the summer intensive reporting period (June 1 – August 31) run by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety (행정안전부), with the aim of proactively identifying and removing disaster risk factors in daily life — such as localized torrential rain, typhoons, and heat waves caused by climate change — and raising residents’ awareness of disaster response.

The session gave neighborhood chiefs detailed guidance on the four key report categories that any resident can easily submit through the Safety Report Center (안전신문고) app or web portal: heavy rain and typhoons (blocked storm drains, flood-prone areas), landslide risk, heat waves (such as broken shade canopies), and water safety.

In particular, participants were trained on how to immediately report hazards on the spot using a smartphone upon discovering risk factors that frequently occur in daily life, such as blocked storm drains or retaining walls at risk of collapse.

Baek Mi-song (백미송), head of Guwol 1-dong (구월1동), said, “Through this campaign, I hope a safety culture in which residents personally check for and report hazards spreads throughout the entire neighborhood,” adding, “We will do our best to make Guwol 1-dong a safe place where residents can live with peace of mind.”
