On July 14, Yeonsu-gu (연수구) District Chief Lee Jae-ho (이재호) attended a training session for heads of local governments held at the Government Complex Seoul (정부서울청사), where he submitted a policy proposal to the Minister of the Interior and Safety calling for the division of Songdo-gu (송도구) and the establishment of Songdo Police Station (송도경찰서). The proposal included requests for administrative restructuring and expanded public safety infrastructure to address the growing population and rising security demands in Songdo International City (송도국제도시).

Songdo International City’s (송도국제도시) Population Surge Prompts Call to Revise Division Criteria
The proposal addresses key pending issues, including government-level support for advancing the division of Songdo-gu (송도구) — such as revising division criteria to reflect the characteristics of an international city — as well as active support for establishing Songdo Police Station (송도경찰서).
Yeonsu-gu (연수구) maintains that administrative restructuring is necessary to proactively respond to the population growth and expanding administrative demand in Songdo International City (송도국제도시). The district specifically requested institutional reform and active cooperation from the government so that the establishment of Songdo-gu (송도구) can proceed based on a comprehensive review of regional conditions and administrative efficiency, citing precedents such as the creation of Yeongjong-gu (영종구) and Geomdan-gu (검단구).

Concerns Over Security Gaps… Renewed Call for New Songdo Police Station
The proposal to establish a Songdo Police Station (송도경찰서) has repeatedly failed to pass review by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety (행정안전부) and the National Police Agency (경찰청) since 2019. Songdo currently accounts for more than 53% of Yeonsu-gu’s (연수구) total population, yet the area has no independent police station of its own — instead, Yeonsu Police Station (연수경찰서), located in the old town center, covers the entire district, fueling ongoing concerns about gaps in public safety.
The district emphasized that, amid growing public anxiety over a recent string of violent crimes, the establishment of Songdo Police Station (송도경찰서) must be pursued promptly to ensure residents’ safety and enable proactive security responses.
District Chief Lee Jae-ho (이재호): “We Will Deliver Tangible Results”
“Following my first policy proposal submitted to the City of Incheon (인천시) shortly after taking office, I have now formally requested that the Ministry of the Interior and Safety approve the division of Songdo-gu (송도구) and the establishment of Songdo Police Station (송도경찰서),” said Yeonsu-gu (연수구) District Chief Lee Jae-ho (이재호). “Building an administrative and public safety system that matches the pace of Songdo International City’s (송도국제도시) growth is a task that can no longer be delayed. I will continue consulting with the government to ensure we deliver tangible results.”
