Linked with IF-Heroes… Hand-Washing Practice Week Runs July 20-24
Incheon Metropolitan City (인천광역시, Mayor Park Chan-dae (박찬대)) announced that it will run a ‘Hand-Washing Practice Week’ with Incheon Dodam Elementary School (인천도담초등학교) from July 20 to 24 to prevent food poisoning. The campaign is being carried out as part of activities by students selected as ‘IF-Heroes (Incheon Food Safety Heroes),’ with the aim of raising awareness of the importance of hygiene management through a food poisoning prevention campaign led by the students themselves, and of spreading a culture of food poisoning prevention within the school.
School-Wide Hand-Washing Short-Form Video Challenge Held First
Ahead of the on-site campaign, a ‘Hand-Washing Short-Form Video Challenge’ was held from July 13 to 17 for all 441 students and 78 faculty and staff members. The videos, each about 30 seconds long, depicted the correct six-step hand-washing method. IF-Heroes students at Dodam Elementary School first produced the videos to kick off the challenge, after which the rest of the students and staff took part voluntarily. Starting with Principal Lee Tae-seop (이태섭), many students joined in, generating an enthusiastic response.
View Box Experience Lets Students Check Their Own Six-Step Hand-Washing
During the ‘Hand-Washing Practice Week’ running from July 20 to 24, a View Box (View Box, 뷰박스) experience space is set up by grade level during every break time. After applying fluorescent lotion and washing their hands, students can check under the View Box whether any fluorescent residue remains, allowing them to directly verify whether they properly followed the correct six-step hand-washing method.
Shin Byung-cheol (신병철), director of the city’s Health and Welfare Bureau, said, “Hand-washing is the easiest and most effective habit for preventing food poisoning,” adding, “We hope this campaign will encourage children to practice proper hand-washing in their daily lives, and that a culture of hygiene in which they protect their own health will spread widely across schools and homes.”
