Posted Article No. 53195

The Yeonsu 3(sam)-dong (연수3동) Resident Self-Governing Council (주민자치회) in Yeonsu-gu (연수구), Incheon (인천) — chaired by Min Eun-deok (민은덕) — carried out its specialized resident self-governance project, the ‘Wrapped in Love’ (사랑을 입어요) clothing drive, on the 16th, ahead of the peak summer heat, to support vulnerable residents in the area. Rayon loungewear hand-made by students of the Community Service Center’s sewing class from April through July was delivered to roughly 50 vulnerable households.

A ‘Lifelong-Learning-Style Giving Project’ Made by Sewing Class Students

The project was organized as a lifelong-learning-style resident participation service initiative in which students of the Community Service Center’s sewing class program used the sewing skills they had learned to help neighbors in need.

Members of the talent-donation club ‘Sarang Sewing Class’ (사랑미싱클래스), made up of students from the Yeonsu 3(sam)-dong (연수3동) Community Service Center’s sewing course, took part together with resident self-governance committee members.

From Cutting Fabric to Sewing — Completing Rayon Loungewear Sets

From April through July, participants gathered weekly in the sewing room to personally handle everything from cutting the fabric to sewing it on the machine, creating premium summer rayon loungewear sets consisting of tops and bottoms.

The completed loungewear was delivered in stages, along with warm words of comfort, to about 50 vulnerable households.

Chairperson Min Eun-deok: “A Community Where Learning, Sharing, and Service Come Full Circle”

Chairperson Min Eun-deok (민은덕) of the Resident Self-Governing Council said, “I’m grateful to the members of the ‘Sarang Sewing Class’ and the resident self-governance committee members, who put in the sweat every week at the sewing machines despite the hot weather to put love for their neighbors into practice.”

She added, “Going forward, we will continue building a happy Yeonsu 3(sam)-dong (연수3동) community where learning, sharing, and service reinforce one another through a variety of resident-participation programs.”
