The Mansu 2-dong (만수2동) Community Welfare Center in Namdong-gu (남동구), Incheon, announced on the 20th that it held a ‘Dementia Awareness Training’ session on the 15th in partnership with the Namdong-gu Public Health Center (남동구 보건소) to strengthen the capabilities of members of the dong’s Community Social Security Council (지역사회보장협의체). The training was organized to help council members—who serve on the front lines of identifying welfare blind spots—properly understand dementia and put meaningful neighborhood care into practice, as the number of dementia patients in the community continues to rise amid an aging population.

Practical Curriculum Covering Everything from the Definition of Dementia to Communication Techniques
The training drew strong engagement from attendees with its practical, field-ready content, covering the definition of dementia, understanding dementia patients and proper communication techniques, and guidance on various dementia support programs.
In particular, by sharing specific conversational methods for communicating warmly and calmly with dementia patients encountered in daily life, along with detailed information on support from related agencies such as local Dementia Care Centers (치매안심센터), the session laid the groundwork for council members to actively identify and connect households showing signs of dementia during home visits or welfare consultations.
Council Chair Park Chung-sik: “The Community Must Care for Them Together”
Park Chung-sik (박충식), civilian chair of the Mansu 2-dong Community Social Security Council, shared his impressions, saying, “This training reminded us once again that dementia is not an individual’s problem but a challenge that the entire community must address together,” and added, “The council will take the lead in carefully looking after and helping elderly residents with dementia who fall into welfare blind spots.”
Lim Deok-myeong (임덕명), head of Mansu 2-dong (public chair), said, “I thank the council members who attended the training for the community despite their busy schedules,” and added, “We will continue to work closely with related agencies to do our best to build a safe and warm village community.”
