The Mansu 6(yuk)-dong New Village Council (Saemaul Association, 새마을협의회) in Namdong-gu (남동구), Incheon (인천) (Chairman Cho Gye-seok, 조계석) announced on the 20th that it had delivered cool watermelons to 13 senior centers in the neighborhood to mark Chobok (초복), the first day of the summer heat period, wishing the elderly a healthy summer. The gift-giving was organized to coincide with Chobok, the beginning of the sweltering “sambok” (삼복) heat, and was voluntarily prepared by council members as a gesture of respect for the elderly.
