Ongjin County Runs First ‘Job Hope Bus’ in Bukdo-myeon Since Opening of Sindo Peace Bridge

One-on-one tailored job counseling held Oct. 16 at Bukdo-myeon office parking lot, aimed at closing employment support gap on islands

Ongjin-gun County (Governor Jang Jeong-min) has begun taking job counseling directly to residents of Bukdo-myeon for the first time since the Sindo Peace Bridge opened. The county said it held job counseling sessions under its “visiting Job Hope Bus” program in the parking lot of the Bukdo-myeon office on the 16th.

The event was organized to improve Bukdo-myeon residents’ access to employment support services following the opening of the Sindo Peace Bridge and to reduce the blind spots where island residents had been left out of employment support because of their geographic circumstances.

The “visiting Job Hope Bus” is a service in which professional job counselors visit sites in person to provide one-on-one tailored job counseling to employers and job seekers. It covers not only job-seeking consultations but also help with writing résumés and cover letters, interview support, and guidance on hiring information and employment policies. It is intended to help job seekers prepare for employment and to support employers in recruiting workers smoothly.

The county explained that the Bukdo-myeon session drew strong responses from residents as an example of strengthened field-oriented employment administration. It said residents can now use employment support services close to where they live.

“We arranged on-site counseling so that Bukdo-myeon residents can use employment support services more conveniently,” an Ongjin County official said. “We will continue to pursue visiting employment support services suited to local conditions, and we will work to expand job opportunities and revitalize the local economy by matching employers and job seekers with tailored positions.”

Attention is focused on whether this effort, which widens the channels through which Bukdo-myeon residents can access job information as the bridge has changed travel conditions in the area, will lead to an improved local employment environment.
