The Gyeyang Park Office of Incheon Metropolitan City (Mayor Park Chan-dae) announced that its 2026 Horticulture Program, which combines everyday gardening education with hands-on experience, is drawing a warm response from residents. The program was designed as an open course that any Incheon resident can join, with no eligibility restrictions.

The program runs from Aug. 11 through Nov. 5 at the Yeonhui Park Forest Healing Center. Sessions are held every Tuesday and Thursday from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and cover plant care methods, hands-on horticulture, and creative activities using plants, all with content that can be applied directly in daily life.

The main sessions include making flower baskets, building terrariums, planting succulents, creating dish gardens, pressed-flower crafts, repotting plants, natural dyeing with chrysanthemums, and making herbal soap. Rather than stopping at simple experiences, the office pairs horticultural theory with practice so that participants can understand the characteristics and care of plants and carry what they learn into their own homes.

A first-session participant said, ‘I signed up for the healing aspect, but the program was more rewarding and varied than I expected, and I was very satisfied,’ adding, ‘From planting to pressed-flower crafts and natural dyeing, I got to learn something new each time, and pairing theory with practice helped me understand horticulture.’

To broaden participation, the office is recruiting 15 students for the second session of the 2026 Horticulture Program. Any Incheon resident may apply, and registration is accepted on a first-come, first-served basis from Aug. 26 to Sept. 2 through the Incheon Online Integrated Reservation system. The second session runs from Sept. 8 to Oct. 8, every Tuesday and Thursday from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m., and participation is free.

The program carries the character of integrative healing, allowing residents to ease the tensions of daily life and care for their minds through the activity of tending plants in the middle of the city. Because it is offered free of charge, it is expected to serve as an accessible gateway to learning for residents who were interested in horticulture but found it difficult to approach due to cost or a lack of information.

Park Eun-ji, head of the Gyeyang Park Office, said, ‘Time spent with plants will be a precious opportunity for residents to find peace of mind amid their busy lives,’ adding, ‘We will continue to expand a variety of hands-on horticulture opportunities so that residents can enjoy healthy and happy everyday lives.’
