Ganghwa-gun (County Mayor Park Yong-cheol) announced that it conducted a heat wave ‘Safety Inspection Day’ campaign in the vicinity of Ganghwa Punmul Market on the morning of the 27th.

The campaign was distinctive in that it used a traditional market with heavy foot traffic as its stage during the peak of the sweltering heat, allowing residents to encounter prevention guidelines directly in a space they visit as part of daily life. The county handed out heat wave prevention items such as fans, sun hats and cooling tissues to market visitors and provided guidance on how to act in extreme heat.

The key action guidelines presented by the county include checking heat wave weather conditions, refraining from outdoor activities during the hottest hours, drinking plenty of water, resting in cool places during extreme heat, and looking out for the safety of family members and neighbors. Consisting of measures anyone can practice without special equipment, the guidelines carry the aim of encouraging people to watch over neighbors vulnerable to heat-related illness, such as elderly residents who live alone.

The county is strengthening monitoring activities to prevent harm to vulnerable groups caused by the heat wave. It is also concentrating its administrative efforts on regularly inspecting cooling shelters and managing heat-reduction facilities such as shade canopies and cooling fog systems. In going beyond distributing supplies to also manage the infrastructure that allows residents to actually escape the heat, the effort is seen as a move toward establishing a standing response system rather than a one-off promotion.

Ganghwa County Mayor Park Yong-cheol said, ‘To protect residents’ safety amid the sweltering heat, we prepared a field-centered campaign at Ganghwa Punmul Market, the county’s signature market,’ adding, ‘Even amid the heat wave that continues day after day, we will continuously pursue effective prevention activities so that residents can spend the summer in health and safety.’

Inquiries related to the campaign can be directed to the Disaster Management Team of the Safety Management Division at Ganghwa-gun (032-930-3495).
