The government is preparing a forum to disclose its evaluation criteria and application guidelines before selecting the domestic site for the ‘Global AI Hub,’ which will bring together the artificial intelligence (AI) functions of international organizations in one place. The Support Group for the Global AI Hub Promotion Committee will hold a public hearing on site selection at 10 a.m. on October 14 in the International Conference Hall of the Government Sejong Convention Center.

The Support Group for the Global Artificial Intelligence (AI) Hub Promotion Committee (hereinafter the Support Group) announced that it will hold a public hearing on the selection of the ‘Global AI Hub’ site at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, October 14, 2026, in the International Conference Hall of the Government Sejong Convention Center (66 Dasom 3-ro, Sejong Special Self-Governing City).

The Global AI Hub is a multilateral AI cooperation base that consolidates AI functions scattered across various international organizations in one location and spreads the resulting outcomes to developing countries and beyond through multilateral development banks. The government has decided to establish the hub domestically and is pursuing the project with the goal of opening it in 2027.

Earlier, on May 21, the government held the ‘Global AI Hub Vision Declaration Ceremony’ and announced a joint statement whose vision is ‘AI for All, AI to Solve Global Challenges.’ The ceremony was attended by nine international organizations — the International Organization for Migration (IOM), the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), the International Labour Organization (ILO), the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the World Food Programme (WFP), the World Health Organization (WHO), the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) and the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) — along with five multilateral development banks: the World Bank (WB), the Asian Development Bank (ADB), the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) and the Central American Bank for Economic Integration (CABEI).

Once the hub opens, personnel dispatched from international organizations will be stationed there to carry out various functions together with domestic and international industry, academia and research institutes. Specifically, these include developing policies and standards for AI adoption in developing countries, sharing AI resources such as data, models and empirical cases, developing and spreading AI solutions to solve global problems, and providing education and training to strengthen global AI capabilities. In other words, it will serve as more than a mere research base — it will become a focal point for narrowing the AI gap within the international community.

The government discussed the basic plan for site selection on September 21 at the Global AI Hub Promotion Committee, chaired by the Prime Minister, and this public hearing has been arranged as a follow-up step. At the hearing, explanations of the site selection criteria, evaluation procedures and future schedule will be followed by guidance on the draft application guidelines, including instructions for completing local government participation applications and submission methods. In addition, there will be an FAQ session addressing key questions likely to be raised by local governments and various sectors regarding site selection, as well as a question-and-answer session with attendees.

Local governments and institutions wishing to attend the hearing may register in advance by Friday, October 9, through the QR code on the attached poster.

The Support Group plans to supplement its evaluation criteria and application guidelines by reflecting the opinions presented at the hearing, and then issue a public call for candidate sites in October. The final site will be confirmed after evaluation and on-site inspections. Since the local government that succeeds in attracting the hub will host an AI cooperation base where international organizations are permanently stationed, this hearing is expected to mark the starting point of inter-regional competition to attract it.

Inquiries can be directed to the Support Group for the Global AI Hub Promotion Committee (044-202-6539, 044-202-4681).
