The Sinheung-dong Community Social Security Council in Jemulpo-gu District, Incheon (Civilian Chair Ham Hye-kyung) is launching the ‘Happy Box Season 2’ project, which will provide groceries to low-income households with disabilities in the neighborhood from August through December.

The council announced the plan on Aug. 13, explaining that the project marks the resumption of an initiative that had been suspended once due to the relocation of the former Jung-gu District food bank.
The project targets households with disabilities among basic livelihood security recipients and the near-poor population. The council said it decided to relaunch the initiative to help stabilize the daily lives of these households. Operated as a specialized project of the Sinheung-dong Community Social Security Council, the initiative will continue through December of this year.
Specifically, after each monthly regular meeting, council members will personally visit 12 low-income households with disabilities to deliver groceries and other items.
The council plans for the project to go beyond simply delivering goods, with members checking on the well-being of the households during each visit, thereby also serving as part of the local welfare safety net.
Civilian Chair Ham Hye-kyung said, “We will provide practical help to our neighbors in need and personally check on their well-being.” She added, “We will continue to carefully look after marginalized neighbors in the community and build a welfare community where we stand together.”
The Community Social Security Council’s revival of the regular, visit-based support project is seen as a measure that takes into account the particular vulnerabilities of households with disabilities, who are more likely to fall into welfare blind spots. Regular in-person contact to check on residents’ well-being, alongside the provision of goods, is expected to help prevent isolation as well.
