The Yeonsu 1-dong Saemaul Council (Chairman Song No-heon) and the Saemaul Women’s Association (Chairwoman Lee Myeong-suk) in Yeonsu-gu District served a warm lunch to about 300 vulnerable residents in the area on the 19th. The event was held at Hambak Children’s Park in front of the Yeonsu 1-dong Administrative Welfare Center.

The two groups divided the work of preparing the food. Members of the Saemaul Council cooked the jajangmyeon, or noodles in black bean sauce, themselves, while members of the Saemaul Women’s Association prepared fruit, rice cakes and other items for the tables. Attendees shared the meal together and spent time building bonds with their neighbors.
The event, in which a neighborhood residents’ group shared food it had made by hand with vulnerable residents, is significant in that it went beyond providing a meal and became an occasion for neighbors to check in on one another and interact.
