Incheon’s Yeongjong-gu District (Mayor Sohn Hwa-jung) announced that the Yeongjong-dong Autonomous Association of Ward Chiefs (Chairperson Cho Mi-ju) visited 18 senior centers in the district on July 15 to deliver watermelons to elderly residents.

On the day, members visited the senior centers to personally hand out watermelons while checking in on the elderly residents to help ensure they get through the summer in good health.

As chobok is regarded as the point when the intense summer heat truly begins, communities around this time have continued sharing activities for vulnerable groups such as elderly people living alone, and this watermelon delivery was organized as part of that ongoing effort.

Cho Mi-ju, chairperson of the Yeongjong-dong Autonomous Association of Ward Chiefs, said, “Although it is a small gesture, we hope it helps our elderly residents get through the heat even a little,” adding, “We will continue to show ongoing care and share with our community’s senior citizens so that they are not left out and can spend a healthy summer.”

Han Yeon-ju, head of Yeongjong-dong, said, “I am grateful to the Autonomous Association of Ward Chiefs, which is always at the forefront of practicing neighborly love,” adding, “The dong Administrative Welfare Center will also do its utmost to carry out continued heat wave countermeasures so that all residents, including elderly citizens, can spend a healthy summer.”
