The Incheon Library announced that it will offer programs centered on culture and the arts to provide residents with a rich range of cultural experiences during October’s Cultural Month. The lectures focus on art and film and are made up of two programs: ‘Art Appreciation for Adults’ and ‘Meetings with Filmmakers.’

‘Art Appreciation for Adults’ will be held over three sessions on Tuesdays, beginning October 13. Participants will appreciate great works of art by connecting them to their own experiences and then express those reflections in writing, completing a personal art essay that ties the emotions within each work to their own lives. Going beyond simple explanations of the artworks, the program shifts the focus of appreciation onto the viewers themselves, helping them absorb art in the language of everyday life.

‘Meetings with Filmmakers’ will run for two weeks starting October 17. Together with film critics Kim Bong-seok and Joo Seong-cheol, participants will discuss Korean cinema and explore ways to appreciate films more easily and think about them more deeply. The program will also examine the present state and trends of Korean cinema through the works of directors who represent the country.

Through appreciating masterpieces, writing, and conversing with experts, both programs are designed to help residents move beyond passively viewing works to developing the ability to interpret them from their own perspective. They also aim to lower the barriers to enjoying culture and the arts, expanding local public libraries into spaces for learning and exchange.

Han Su-mi, director of the Incheon Library, said, ‘Through this Cultural Month program, we hope residents will encounter art and film in a familiar way, view works from diverse perspectives, and experience culture and the arts in greater depth.’

The programs are open free of charge to all Incheon residents. For more information, visit the Incheon Library website or call 032-440-6665.
