Ahead of Chuseok, the Ganghwa-gun Saemaul Association (chaired by Cho In-sul) held a ‘Chuseok Songpyeon Sharing of Love’ event for struggling neighbors in the community. It was an occasion to convey warm affection to those spending the holiday alone.

The Ganghwa-gun Saemaul Association announced that on the 18th it held the ‘Chuseok Songpyeon Sharing of Love’ event for neighbors in need within the community.
About 50 male and female Saemaul leaders took part in the event that day. They made songpyeon (traditional half-moon rice cakes) themselves and packaged them with care, putting neighborly love into practice. The songpyeon prepared this way will be delivered to low-income families, elderly people living alone, and other neighbors in need across the district.
Chuseok, the nation’s biggest holiday, is a time when families gather together, yet for those living alone or in difficult circumstances it can be a period when feelings of isolation grow deeper instead. This sharing is meaningful in that the local community reached out so these neighbors could spend the holiday warmly. It also carries the character of public-private cooperation, in that it was not one-sided government-led support but rather an effort in which Saemaul leaders made up of local residents took part directly.

Cho In-sul, chair of the Ganghwa-gun Saemaul Association, said, ‘It is a small gesture, but I hope it helps our struggling neighbors spend a warm and happy Chuseok,’ adding, ‘We will continue to carry out various sharing activities together with the local community.’

Park Yong-cheol, the mayor of Ganghwa-gun, said, ‘Ahead of Chuseok, I hope the warm spirit of caring for our neighbors spreads throughout every corner of the community,’ adding, ‘Through sharing and volunteer activities that bring the public and private sectors together, we will continue to build a Ganghwa-gun where everyone is happy.’
