Incheon Library Names ‘Companionship’ as Fourth-Quarter Theme… Reading Together Through People, Animals and Plants

Book curation and monthly linked programs to run from October to December, open to all citizens free of charge

Incheon Library has designated ‘companionship’ as the theme of its reading rooms for the fourth quarter of this year, running book curation and monthly linked programs that introduce related books and audiovisual materials from October through December. The aim is to help citizens reflect, through books, on the meaning of relationships and of the beings—people, animals and plants—that share their daily lives.

Incheon Library, operated by Incheon Metropolitan City (Mayor Park Chan-dae), announced that it has selected ‘companionship’ as the theme of its reading rooms for the fourth quarter of 2026 and will introduce related books and audiovisual materials and run linked programs from October through December.

The library will present books and audiovisual materials (DVDs) on the theme of ‘companionship’ across several of its spaces, including General Reading Rooms 1 and 2, the Kkumnamuteo children’s area, the Eoullimteo community space and the digital room. A distinctive feature is that the materials have been curated so that users of various generations can explore the beings that share their everyday lives—such as people, animals and plants—and the meaning of those relationships.

Rather than stopping at displays, the library has also prepared linked programs tailored to monthly themes. The three programs are: ▲Companion Plants: The Humanities of Plants ▲Becoming a Companion to My Own Heart ▲How to Raise Companion Animals Well.

In October, ‘Companion Plants: The Humanities of Plants’ will explore the benefits companion plants bring to our lives and the meanings they hold. In November, ‘Becoming a Companion to My Own Heart’ will use picture books to guide participants in understanding their own emotions and caring for their minds in a healthy way. In December, ‘How to Raise Companion Animals Well’ will teach proper ways to care for companion animals, including how to respond to different situations.

As the number of households keeping companion animals and plants grows and the emotional care of single-person households and older adults emerges as a social task, this initiative is meaningful in that it connects reading with programs to give citizens an opportunity to reflect for themselves on the meaning of relationships and care.

Han Su-mi, director of Incheon Library, said, ‘Through ‘companionship,’ this fourth quarter’s theme, I hope this becomes a time to look back on the preciousness of the beings that share our daily lives and on the meaning of our relationships.’

The programs are open to all Incheon citizens free of charge. For more information, visit the Incheon Library website or call (☎032-440-6665).
