The Incheon Metropolitan Government (Mayor Park Chan-dae) announced that it will hold the ‘2026 Incheon Reading Festival’ at the Incheon Art Platform for two days, from Sept. 19 to 20. Now in its sixth year, this year’s event will present reading-culture programs that bring together all generations and walks of life under the theme ‘Reading Incheon, Connecting Hearts.’

The Incheon Reading Festival is a large-scale reading-culture celebration open to all citizens free of charge, organized to broaden communication among residents through the medium of books. A wide range of programs in various formats—lectures, exhibitions, hands-on activities and screenings—have been prepared so that citizens of all ages can enjoy the festival together.
The opening ceremony will be held on Sept. 19 at 2 p.m. on the outdoor stage of the Incheon Art Platform, accompanied by a celebratory performance. The ceremony will feature commendations for those who have contributed to promoting reading culture, as well as an awards presentation for the festival’s competition.
A broad lineup of celebrity lectures has also been arranged. Announcer Lee Hye-seong will speak on the theme ‘In the Age of AI, Do We Still Need to Read Books?,’ followed by writer Lee Byung-ryul on ‘The Heart of Living by Following What You Love,’ writer Lee Sla on ‘Writing Is My Way of Being Alone,’ writer Cheon Seon-ran on ‘Stories of Books and Incheon,’ and writer Choi Ji-hye on ‘Meeting Local Writers.’
Alongside a professional forum aimed at revitalizing the local publishing ecosystem, an in-depth reading discussion will be held on 《What’s the Big Deal About Books》, a title selected for the ‘Three Colors, Three Books Incheon Book’ program. This year, a special exhibition commemorating the 150th anniversary of the birth of independence activist Baekbeom Kim Gu adds further significance to the event.
Around the venue, 30 book-market booths featuring publishers, bookstores and independent publishers, along with eight experience and promotional booths run by related organizations, will be in operation. An outdoor screening of the film ‘Where’d You Go, Bernadette,’ capturing the mood of autumn, and a ‘Book-nic’ space where visitors can relax and read freely will also be set up.
In addition, participatory programs will welcome visitors, including an Incheon Book completed with citizens’ own voices, the escape-room-style program ‘Book Escape: The Library of Lost Memories,’ and a tour of the open port district that follows the path of the ‘Diary of Baekbeom.’ Going beyond a simple space for reading, this lineup connects local stories and history through hands-on experience, offering citizens a new opportunity to enjoy culture.
Detailed schedules and program information can be found on the official Incheon Reading Festival website and its Instagram account.
Park Hyeok, director of the city’s Cultural Policy Division, said, ‘Through this Reading Festival, we hope to create a celebratory space where generations and social groups come together and all citizens are united through culture,’ adding, ‘We will continue to make efforts so that reading and culture can become a source of citizens’ happiness and take root naturally in their daily lives.’
