The Community Social Security Council of Yeonsu 2-dong in Yeonsu-gu District (Co-chairs Park Byung-chul and Lee Byung-chul) has partnered with the Korea Racing Authority’s Incheon Yeonsu Branch to help neighbors struggling to make ends meet. The council said on the 14th that it is carrying out the “Love Dream Project” with the branch for 30 low-income, vulnerable households in the neighborhood.

The project is funded by a 3 million won donation from the Korea Racing Authority Incheon Yeonsu Branch. The council used the donation to assemble gift packages of daily necessities and groceries and is delivering them to the selected households.
Households in greatest need were prioritized. They include people with disabilities whose limited mobility makes it difficult to go out and shop for groceries, seniors living alone, and households facing several hardships at once that make it hard to cover living costs.

The project is a public-private partnership: the neighborhood council, which knows local conditions well, identified the recipient households, while a public institution based in the area provided the funding. Because the council closely follows residents’ circumstances and the institution is contributing to the local community, the division of roles helped make sure limited resources reached the families that actually need them.
One resident who received a package expressed gratitude, saying, “I received a good variety of the things I need for daily life, so I think they’ll be very useful.”
Kang Jeong-su, head of the Korea Racing Authority Incheon Yeonsu Branch, said, “I hope this project will be of some small help to our neighbors in need,” adding, “I hope it becomes an opportunity for warm-hearted giving to continue in the local community.”

Park Byung-chul, chairperson of the Yeonsu 2-dong Community Social Security Council, said, “I thank the Korea Racing Authority Incheon Yeonsu Branch for its support for our neighbors in need,” adding, “We will continue to look after and support low-income residents in the area who are facing difficulties through a variety of programs.”
Items used every day, such as groceries and daily necessities, take up a significant share of low-income households’ living expenses, so the support is expected to provide practical relief for the recipient households. With the council pledging to continue a range of programs, it remains to be seen whether cooperation between local institutions and the neighborhood council will become a lasting safety net for low-income households in Yeonsu 2-dong.
