Jemulpo-gu Launches Full Service of ‘Living Convenience Map’ on Sept. 18

Complete overhaul of former Dong-gu Living Convenience Map… Map-based service covering some 100 administrative data sets across daily convenience, culture and economy, urban environment, education and children, and medical and welfare services

Jemulpo-gu District (Mayor Kim Chan-jin) in Incheon will officially launch the ‘Jemulpo-gu Living Convenience Map’ (https://www.jemulpo.go.kr/lifemap/) on Sept. 18, a service that allows residents to view some 100 pieces of administrative information across the district at a glance on a map. Information directly tied to residents’ daily lives, including hospitals, welfare facilities, educational institutions and cultural spaces, can now be found directly on the map without searching through separate documents.

The service is the result of a complete overhaul of the ‘Dong-gu Living Convenience Map,’ which was operated during the former Dong-gu era, to coincide with the launch of Jemulpo-gu. The new district’s administrative boundaries and residents’ living zones have been reflected in the map system, and the screen layout has been redesigned intuitively around the map to simplify the process of searching for and checking desired information.

The biggest change is the breadth of information included. Unlike the previous service, the map broadly covers information from multiple fields closely tied to residents’ daily lives, including daily convenience, culture and economy, urban environment, education and children, and medical and welfare services. In addition, the service has been linked with the official Jemulpo-gu website (https://www.jemulpo.go.kr/) so that any resident visiting the district’s website can easily access the map service.

Rather than simply providing the service one-way, the district has established a structure to continuously reflect residents’ needs. It has opened a dedicated channel (kimyd322@korea.kr) for submitting ideas related to the map, and displays rankings of the maps most frequently accessed by residents on screen to show which information draws the most interest. The aim is to improve the service based on usage patterns and suggestions.

A ‘Pledge Map’ menu, which will place the district administration’s commitments on the map, is also scheduled to be added in the future. Kim Chan-jin, mayor of Jemulpo-gu, said, “Going forward, we will add a ‘Pledge Map’ menu, our promise to residents, to the Jemulpo-gu Living Convenience Map, and use it as a channel for communication with residents that goes beyond a simple map service.”

The service is significant in that Jemulpo-gu has rebuilt its residents’ living information infrastructure at the new district level while reorganizing its administrative system following its launch. By bundling scattered administrative information on a location basis, the service is expected to improve residents’ access to information, and attention is focused on whether it will function as a means of communication between the administration and residents through the suggestion channel and the Pledge Map.
