The Incheon Metropolitan Government announced that it has chosen 15 citizens who have contributed to the development of the local community and to fostering a bright and healthy social atmosphere as this year’s Citizen Award recipients.

Established in November 1978, the Incheon Citizen Award is the city’s most prestigious honor, now in its 48th year. It is conferred across 13 fields in four categories, including the Public Service Award, the Filial Piety Award, the Industrial Development Award, and the Education Development Award. The award carries great significance as an occasion on which the community officially honors the achievements of ordinary citizens who have quietly held their ground.

A total of 39 candidates were recommended for this year’s award. After deliberation by the Citizen Award Review Committee, composed of 15 members including city council members, local elders, academics, and heads of civic organizations, 15 final recipients were selected across 10 fields.

The awards will be presented at the 62nd Citizens’ Day ceremony to be held on October 10. The emphasis of this year’s awards lies in spotlighting citizens who have devoted themselves to their neighbors and communities in the fields of everyday life, rather than a select few with dazzling accomplishments. For Incheon’s 3.05 million citizens, it is expected to serve as an occasion to recognize that ordinary neighbors, no different from themselves, have been the ones sustaining society.

Mayor Park Chan-dae said, ‘On behalf of Incheon’s 3.05 million citizens, I extend my sincere congratulations and gratitude to all the recipients who have dedicated themselves to Incheon’s development, each in their own place,’ adding, ‘I hope that the dedication and achievements of the recipients will serve as a broad example for the community and become a precious force in creating a new leap forward and hope for Incheon.’
