The Incheon Metropolitan Government (Mayor Park Chan-dae) announced that it held the first meeting of the ‘Incheon Bio Alliance’ at City Hall on the 30th. The move follows the formation of an advisory group of ten experts in the bio field to support the sustainable growth of the bio industry and to respond to current issues.
The newly launched ‘Incheon Bio Alliance’ is the first-phase task in building an ‘Incheon-style bio governance.’ Experts from industry, academia, research institutions, and financial and investment organizations take part, serving as an advisory body that diagnoses the key issues facing the regional bio industry and identifies effective policy tasks. Its significance lies in establishing a standing consultative channel that surveys the industrial ecosystem as a whole rather than being confined to any single project.
At the first meeting, in-depth discussions were held on the establishment of the Incheon Institute of Bioscience and Technology — a core bio pledge of the ninth popularly elected administration — and on measures to build an Incheon-style bio governance. The city plans to actively reflect the advisers’ expert recommendations in its bio policy through regular meetings going forward.
Using the operation of this alliance as a springboard, Incheon City plans to officially launch the ‘Incheon Bio Forum’ in January 2027 and to complete a comprehensive arena for cooperation among industry, academia, research institutes, government and hospitals — the second-phase task — thereby giving concrete shape to a long-term growth strategy for the bio industry.
The establishment of such a cooperative framework draws attention in that it serves as a conduit connecting private-sector expertise with administrative drive in Incheon, where bio companies and research infrastructure are concentrated around Songdo. Should the opinions gathered by the advisory body translate into policy, the growth of the regional bio ecosystem could lead to job creation and the revitalization of the local economy, ultimately benefiting citizens.
