A community sports program has opened during evening hours for working residents who find it difficult to pursue leisure activities during the day. The Community Autonomy Center of the Yonghyeon 3-dong Administrative Welfare Center (Head Shin Sang-il) in Michuhol-gu has newly launched and begun operating a ‘Diet Dance Evening Class’ since July 1, reflecting residents’ demand for cultural and sports activities.

The program was arranged to make use of the facilities at the newly built Yonghyeon 3-dong district office building, which opened this past March, and to provide leisure and sports opportunities to residents such as office workers who find it hard to make time during the day.

Classes are held in the lecture room on the third floor of the Yonghyeon 3-dong Administrative Welfare Center from 7:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. on weekdays. A distinctive feature is that the sessions are scheduled in the evening so that participants can take part without burden even after work. The tuition fee is 35,000 won per month, and the district plans to continue the program by monitoring residents’ demand and operating conditions.

The learning space has also been fitted out to be pleasant. The lecture room is equipped with soundproofing, a dance floor and a full glass front, so that participants can exercise safely and comfortably. A residents’ lounge on the same floor is being used as a space for rest and communication before and after classes.

Residents’ interest was keen. Registration, which began this past June, saw all 35 available slots filled early, and 9 people are currently on the waiting list. At the first class on July 1, participants voluntarily held an opening ceremony, wishing for the program’s stable operation and safety.

Kim Jae-gu, chairperson of the Yonghyeon 3-dong Residents’ Autonomy Council, said, “I thank all the residents who have shown great interest in the new program we prepared to coincide with the opening of the new Administrative Welfare Center,” adding, “We will continue to actively gather residents’ opinions to discover tailored programs for health and leisure and to operate them substantively going forward.” For details, contact the Yonghyeon 3-dong Residents’ Autonomy Council (☎070-4243-0022).
