The Incheon Metropolitan Government (Mayor Park Chan-dae) has selected 15 citizens who have devoted themselves to the development of the local community as recipients of the 48th Incheon Metropolitan Citizen Awards, in commemoration of the 62nd Citizens’ Day. The Incheon Metropolitan Government has confirmed 15 citizens who have quietly devoted themselves to the betterment of the local community as this year’s Citizen Award recipients. Established in November 1978, the Citizen Award marks its 48th edition this year and stands as Incheon’s most prestigious honor — a flagship recognition program through which the city officially commends the contributions of ordinary citizens who have worked hard for their community.

The Citizen Award is organized into 13 fields across four categories: the Social Public Interest Award, the Filial Piety Award, the Industrial Development Award, and the Educational Development Award. It is conferred upon citizens who have contributed not only to the development of the local community but also to fostering a bright and healthy social atmosphere. By placing greater weight on everyday practice and dedication than on specific achievements or positions, the award carries the meaning of a contribution recognized together by one’s neighbors and community.

A total of 39 candidates were nominated for this year’s Citizen Award. Following a review by the Citizen Award Deliberation Committee — composed of 15 members including city council members, local elders, academics, and heads of civic organizations — 15 final recipients were chosen across 10 fields. With figures from a wide range of sectors taking part in the review, the selection process itself reflects a broad consensus within the local community.

The award ceremony will take place at the 62nd Citizens’ Day commemoration on October 10. Held alongside the Citizens’ Day events, it is expected to allow the recipients’ contributions to be shared with a greater number of citizens.

Mayor Park Chan-dae said, ‘On behalf of Incheon’s 3.05 million citizens, I extend my heartfelt congratulations and gratitude to all the recipients who have devoted themselves to the development of Incheon from their respective positions.’ He added, ‘I hope the dedication and contributions of the recipients will serve as a widespread example to the community and become a precious force in creating a new leap forward and new hope for Incheon.’
