Ongjin-gun County (Governor Jang Jeong-min) announced on the 9th that it is conducting “food poisoning prevention diagnostic consulting” through October for food service establishments with weak hygiene management, aiming to prevent food poisoning incidents in advance. The project is being carried out by the county’s Environmental Sanitation Division’s Food Sanitation Team.

The consulting is designed to encourage establishments to improve their own hygiene management capabilities. Ongjin County plans to first select establishments that have had relatively weak hygiene management, strengthen on-site prevention activities, diagnose conditions at each establishment, and present specific improvement measures.
The program targets about 20 food service establishments in the county, and Ongjin County has organized a consulting team composed of county officials and consumer food sanitation monitors to carry it out.
The consulting proceeds in two main stages. Establishments’ hygiene management conditions are inspected according to a food poisoning prevention diagnostic evaluation form, and based on the results, on-site training and improvement guidance are provided. In particular, establishments that receive an “inadequate” rating with a score below 61 points in the first inspection undergo a second round of consulting to confirm whether their weak areas have actually improved.

Separate from establishment inspections, Ongjin County also plans to conduct food poisoning prevention education for business owners and food handlers in parallel, to preemptively block risk factors and strengthen establishments’ independent hygiene management capabilities.
An Ongjin County official said, “Food poisoning is closely related not only to individual health but also to the region’s dining environment, so prevention is of the utmost importance,” adding, “Through this consulting program, we will thoroughly inspect vulnerabilities at each establishment and support practical improvements to create a food environment that both residents and tourists can trust.”
As this consulting program continues through October, a period when the seasonal risk of food poisoning remains high, Ongjin County expects it to serve as an opportunity to raise the hygiene standards of food service establishments in the county to a new level.
