The Incheon Metropolitan Government (Mayor Park Chan-dae) and the Incheon Metropolitan Dementia Center announced that they held the ‘2026 Incheon Metropolitan City Dementia Overcoming Day Commemorative Event’ on the 22nd at Incheon SSG Landers Field. Held to mark World Alzheimer’s Day and Dementia Overcoming Day on September 21 each year, this year’s event was organized with the aim of viewing the disappearance of dementia patients as a task for the entire local community.

Held under the theme ‘Together in Value, Three Million Tipsters,’ the event was co-hosted with the SSG Landers and TBN Gyeongin Traffic Broadcasting. Its core message was to define the disappearance of dementia patients not as a problem for families or relevant agencies alone, but as an issue the whole community must care about and respond to together, conveying that any Incheon citizen who spots a disappearance can become a tipster.
Dementia patients and their families took the stage in person. Before the game began, musical actor Hong Ji-min, whose mother lives with dementia, sang the national anthem and appealed for greater social empathy toward the condition. During the ceremonial first pitch and first hit that followed, a person with early-onset dementia who continues daily life after diagnosis appeared alongside Incheon Mayor Park Chan-dae, sending the message that people with dementia are also proud members of society.
During the game, a special event linked with TBN Gyeongin Traffic Broadcasting was held. An announcement recreating an actual missing-person broadcast was aired, and a program called ‘Find the Missing Landy’ was run, in which spectators looked at a photo on the electronic display board, located the missing person, and reported the sighting. A quiz event on how to respond when a dementia patient goes missing was also held, underscoring the importance of preventing disappearances.
The SSG Landers players also joined the event. The players took the field wearing caps bearing a ‘wandering-risk senior identification tag’ patch, and each time a home run was hit, they carried out an event handing out plush dolls of the dementia partner mascot ‘Danbi’ to the spectators.
At the Frontier Square set up outside the stadium, health and dementia experience promotion booths were operated, with participation from each district and county dementia relief center, public dementia care hospitals, and related agencies. Through the booths, citizens were guided on various dementia-related services and had the chance to try them firsthand.
The issue of missing dementia patients is emerging as a pressing community concern with the arrival of a super-aged society. The event was meaningful in that it allowed citizens to feel firsthand that, for early detection and a safe return home, the attention and tips of each and every citizen are needed, beyond just families and agencies.
Mayor Park Chan-dae emphasized, ‘I hope this event has become an occasion for our society to see people with dementia and their families as neighbors we live alongside, and for all citizens to take an interest in preventing the disappearance of elderly people with dementia.’ He added, ‘We will continue our efforts to build a community where people can carry on their daily lives even with dementia, and where anyone can become a tipster in a moment of need to help ensure the safe return of those living with the condition.’
