Dohwa 1-dong Stands by Vulnerable Residents With Life-Cycle-Tailored ‘Care Package Service’

From June to September, five households each month — 20 in total — receive 100,000 won worth of tailored goods, delivered in person by honorary social welfare officials

A welfare program that carefully meets the changing needs of vulnerable residents at each stage of life is under way in Michuhol-gu, Incheon. The Dohwa 1-dong Community Social Security Council (Chairman Park Bae-geun) is carrying out its “Life-Cycle-Tailored Care Package Service Project” from June through September.

The project targets low-income vulnerable groups going through major life transitions — from pregnancy and childbirth to infancy and early childhood, the prime working years and old age. Eligibility is set at 80 percent or less of the standard median income, and the program delivers 100,000 won worth of tailored goods according to each household’s circumstances.

What sets the project apart is that, rather than handing out uniform goods, it reflects each household’s characteristics and stage of life. The council plans to select five households each month and deliver needed goods to a total of 20 households by September.

The Dohwa 1-dong Community Social Security Council has steadily carried out this project since 2020. Honorary social welfare officials serving as council members visit the target households in person to deliver goods and check on their well-being, while also helping to identify welfare blind spots and reinforce the local welfare safety net. This year, the council delivered the first care packages to five eligible households in June and will continue the project through September.

Chairman Park Bae-geun said, “I hope the goods provided can be at least a small source of strength for neighbors struggling amid life’s transitions,” adding, “We will continue to pursue tailored welfare programs that meet residents’ diverse welfare needs and build a tightly woven local welfare safety net.”
