Another sharing business that regularly donates part of its sales to help neighbors has opened in Yeonsu-gu District’s Songdo 3-dong. The Songdo 3-dong Community Security Council (Co-chairs Choi Hee-soon and Kim Jeong-rak) visited a local sharing business on May 24 to hold a ‘Good Store plaque ceremony,’ formally recognizing the participation of a small business owner supporting the district’s welfare funding.

The store newly designated as the 14th Good Store is Hochicken Songdo Global Branch. The Good Store campaign involves regularly donating at least 30,000 won of a store’s monthly sales to the Community Chest of Korea to help neighbors in difficult circumstances. It is significant as a system that draws local commerce into steady welfare participation, rather than one-time individual sponsorship.
In particular, six stores in Songdo 3-dong have newly joined the Good Store campaign this year alone. As residents and small business owners together broaden their participation, observers say the district-level welfare safety net is growing ever tighter.
The owner of Hochicken Songdo Global Branch, who received the plaque, said, “I wanted to share warm concern, however small, with neighbors in difficulty,” adding, “I will continue to be a store that shares warmth with the local community through steady giving.”
Kim Jeong-rak, co-chair of the council, responded, “Thank you for readily joining in sharing during a difficult time,” and, “We will use it transparently for welfare projects to build a Songdo 3-dong where no one is left behind.”
Based on welfare funds raised through the Good Store campaign and other efforts, the Songdo 3-dong Community Security Council plans to continue various district-specific projects for vulnerable residents and neighbors in welfare blind spots. A virtuous cycle of sharing — returning money earned locally to struggling neighbors in the area — is gradually taking root in Songdo 3-dong.
