Unseo 2-dong Kicks Off ‘Yeongjong-gu Era’ of Communication-Driven Administration With Round of Senior Center Visits

Chief Seo Hyung-min visits eight senior centers in the district on July 2–3, listening to residents' requests and inspecting facilities against the heat wave

In step with the July 1 launch of Incheon’s newly established Yeongjong-gu District, Unseo 2-dong (Chief Seo Hyung-min) has taken its first step into the ‘Yeongjong-gu era’ with hands-on, on-site communication administration, personally touring senior centers across the neighborhood. The newly appointed chief, arriving alongside the debut of the new administrative district, set the direction for community-centered administration by first listening to the voices of the elderly not at his office but in residents’ everyday spaces.

Unseo 2-dong Chief Seo Hyung-min visited eight senior centers in the district one by one over two days, from July 2 to 3, including the senior center at the Yeongjong Complex 1 LH Apartments. Sitting face to face with the elderly, he listened directly to each of the inconveniences they experience while using the centers and the matters in need of improvement.

The visits were not mere courtesy calls. With the height of the summer heat approaching, Chief Seo inspected the senior centers’ facilities as a whole, checking whether an environment was in place for the elderly to spend the summer safely and comfortably. The move is seen as reflecting the fact that senior centers are where the most vulnerable spend the greatest amount of time during heat waves.

One elderly resident who uses a senior center said, “I sincerely welcome Chief Seo Hyung-min, who took office along with the launch of Yeongjong-gu,” adding, “I am grateful that, despite his busy schedule, he visited the senior center in person and listened to what the elderly had to say. I hope he will continue to communicate closely with residents as he does now and work hard for Unseo 2-dong.”

Unseo 2-dong Chief Seo Hyung-min said, “I am sincerely grateful to the elderly who welcomed me so warmly,” adding, “Senior centers are precious places of rest for the elderly and important spaces for communicating with residents, so I will carefully attend to the voices on the ground and improve the inconveniences one by one.” He went on to add, “I will continue to communicate closely with residents and do my utmost to make Unseo 2-dong a good place for everyone to live.”

This round of visits stands as an example of how a new administrative organization will build residents’ trust in its early days, and Unseo 2-dong is expected to continue follow-up measures that reflect the requests received on the ground in its actual administration.
