Seonhak-dong Resident Hong Jae-sook Donates 600 kg of Potatoes to Vulnerable Households

A neighborly act of sharing for low-income and vulnerable residents has continued in Seonhak-dong, Yeonsu-gu District. Hong Jae-sook, a Seonhak-dong resident and chief chairwoman of the former board of directors of Nam-Incheon Agricultural Cooperative, donated 600 kg of potatoes to the Seonhak-dong Administrative Welfare Center to help local residents facing financial hardship.

The agricultural produce delivered this time amounted to 60 boxes of 10 kg each, totaling 600 kg. With such a large quantity of fresh produce donated at once, it is expected to provide practical support to low-income families who struggle to put meals on the table during the summer.

Hong’s giving is not a one-time gesture. She has also regularly taken part in efforts to identify and address welfare blind spots, personally seeking out struggling neighbors and connecting them to the welfare team at the district’s administrative welfare center. She has also donated food for the local community over a long period, and this potato donation is an extension of such sharing activities.

The donated potatoes will be delivered sequentially by the Seonhak-dong Administrative Welfare Center to households in need after reviewing local circumstances. The district is selecting the recipients so that the donated goods reach every household that actually requires support.

Hong Jae-sook said, “It is only a small gesture, but I hope it helps struggling neighbors around us enjoy a healthy and warm meal,” adding, “I want to steadily continue sharing activities for the local community in the future.”

Kim Jung-min, head of Seonhak-dong, expressed his gratitude, saying, “I am thankful that she readily sponsored such a large amount of produce at a time when everyone is having a hard time,” and, “We will do our utmost to ensure that the donor’s warm heart, given in an effort to improve the welfare of the local community, reaches neighbors in need.”

At a time of rising price pressures and continuing heat waves, with residents adding their own voluntary sharing for their neighbors, Seonhak-dong’s local welfare safety net is expected to grow even tighter-knit.
