The Juan Video Media Center (Director Jang Gu-bo, hereafter “the center”) of Incheon’s Michuhol-gu District (Mayor Kim Jeong-sik) is recruiting participants for the program “Walking the Humanities Trail While Listening to Popular Songs,” part of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism’s “2026 Humanities on the Road” project.

The program is a humanities course that explores the meaning of life and Korea’s modern history through the lyrics and historical backdrop of popular songs. It aims to build common ground across generations through music and broaden understanding of humanity and society.

The lectures will be led by writer and columnist Lee Ho-geon and popular music critic Park Seong-geon. The course will run for a total of 10 sessions from July 29 to September 29, held every Tuesday and Wednesday from 7:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. in the multipurpose lecture room on the seventh floor of the center.

The program is open to 30 adult residents of Michuhol-gu, and tuition is free. Those wishing to participate can apply through the center’s website by 6 p.m. on July 27.

“I hope residents will get to experience the humanities in a familiar way by exploring the spirit of the times and philosophy embedded in popular songs,” said center director Jang Gu-bo. “I hope this will be an opportunity for people to reflect on their own lives through music and connect with the local community.”

The program, which aims to lower the barrier to the humanities through the familiar medium of popular songs, is expected to serve as a venue for residents to gather and build common ground in a local community where intergenerational communication has been on the decline. Details on how to apply and the full schedule can be found on the center’s website (juanmedia.or.kr), and further inquiries can be made by phone (☎070-4607-1214, 032-872-2622).
