Incheon’s Michuhol District (District Chief Kim Jeong-sik) has teamed up with local specialized institutions to lay the groundwork for providing professional health management services to recipients of integrated care. The district announced on the 13th that it had signed a memorandum of understanding with three local specialized institutions in the health management field of the “Integrated Care Region-Specific Project.”

The agreement was concluded under the Act on Integrated Support for Regional Care Including Medical Care and Nursing Care, with the aim of smoothly advancing the integrated care region-specific project and strengthening the community cooperation system.
Three specialized institutions took part in the signing ceremony: the Michuhol District Pharmacists Association of Incheon Metropolitan City, the Incheon Branch of the Korean Physical Therapy Association, and the Incheon Metropolitan City Chapter of the Korean Association of Occupational Therapists.
Under the agreement, the three institutions will locate integrated care recipients and provide them with home visit medication management and home visit exercise services, respectively. The district will oversee the overall operation of the project, including identifying recipients and connecting them with services.
District Chief Kim Jeong-sik said, “We have laid the foundation to provide systematic health management services to integrated care recipients in cooperation with local specialized institutions,” adding, “We will strengthen a community-centered integrated care system so that residents can live healthily and stably in the places where they have long resided.”
Michuhol District has been operating region-specific projects in the fields of daily living care and housing environment improvement since April. With this agreement expanding the scope of services to include health management, the foundation for region-tailored integrated care services is seen as having become considerably more solid.
Going forward, the district plans to work with neighborhood administrative welfare centers, medical institutions and service providers to actively identify integrated care recipients and connect them with services tailored to individual care needs. As population aging progresses rapidly, the quality of life of vulnerable residents may hinge on how tightly knit the community-based integrated care system becomes, drawing attention to whether this agreement will lead to a substantive resolution of gaps in care.
