The Songnim 3- and 5-dong Community Social Welfare Council (Chair Jeong Sun-ja) of Jemulpo District (Mayor Kim Chan-jin) in Incheon carried out a campaign on July 7 to identify welfare blind spots ahead of the summer season, when heat waves and other conditions put vulnerable residents at risk.

The campaign, centered on the inn street in Songnim 3- and 5-dong, brought together neighborhood autonomy council members, tong leaders and other Hope Keepers (honorary social welfare officials), along with the outreach public health and welfare team. It focused on protecting residents who are especially vulnerable to the sweltering heat and identifying households in need of assistance.

Under the banner “Write a message of support for vulnerable residents,” the day’s activities combined the identification of at-risk households with the delivery of messages of hope to vulnerable residents.

As July marks the start of the intense summer heat and a period of heightened concern for the health and safety of vulnerable groups, participants also distributed flyers containing guidance on at-risk households and tips for preventing heat-related illness.

Chair Jeong Sun-ja said, “What I liked most about this campaign was its multifaceted approach — not only identifying welfare blind spots but also delivering messages of support and heat wave prevention tips.” She added, “We will do our utmost to make sure no one in Songnim 3- and 5-dong is left without shelter from the heat.”

Jo Sang-hye, head of Songnim 3- and 5-dong, said, “Even a small gesture of concern from residents can become a great source of hope for households in crisis.” She added, “I sincerely thank everyone who took part so actively in identifying welfare blind spots despite the hot weather.”
