The Dohwa 2- and 3-dong Community Service Center (head Lee Woo-jong) in Michuhol-gu District, together with the local Community Social Security Council and welfare block leaders, carried out the “Healthy Summer Nutritious Samgyetang Sharing Program” on July 14, chobok, the first of the year’s three hottest days, delivering samgyetang, or chicken soup with ginseng, to 100 vulnerable households in the neighborhood.

The event was organized to help low-income elderly people living alone, people with disabilities and other health-vulnerable residents restore their energy ahead of the peak summer heat, and to share warmth within the community.
Members of the Community Social Security Council carefully packaged the samgyetang from early morning, then visited each targeted household together with the welfare block leaders to deliver the soup in person.
During the visits, they also checked residents’ living conditions in preparation for the heat wave and inquired about their health and well-being, further strengthening the local welfare safety net for vulnerable residents.
The activity is an example of private-sector resources — including the Community Social Security Council and welfare block leaders — joining forces around chobok to reach vulnerable residents in welfare blind spots, in line with the broader effort to strengthen the care system for vulnerable groups during the heat wave season.
Yoo Young-mo, chairman of the Dohwa 2- and 3-dong Community Social Security Council, said, “We hope the samgyetang we prepared with sincerity gives strength to the elderly and neighbors worn down by the heat,” adding, “We will continue to lead field-based welfare efforts that residents can genuinely feel.”
An official from the dong office said, “We are grateful to the members of the Community Social Security Council and the welfare block leaders who worked hard for their neighbors despite the hot weather,” and added, “We will continue to identify welfare blind spots through public-private cooperation and provide welfare services tailored to the season and the characteristics of each group.”
