The Agricultural Technology Center of the Incheon Metropolitan Government (Mayor Park Chan-dae) is recruiting 30 trainees from among local residents for its ‘2026 Second-Half Urban Farming Expert Program.’ Combining classroom instruction with field practice, the course cultivates specialized personnel in urban agriculture, and those who meet the requirements can go on to earn the state-recognized urban agriculture manager qualification.

The Incheon Agricultural Technology Center announced that it will run a second-half urban farming expert program so that residents interested in agriculture within the city can systematically build their expertise.

The program pairs classroom instruction in related fields such as organic farming, seeds, agricultural chemistry and landscaping with hands-on field practice. Those who complete at least 80 hours of training and hold a craftsman-level or higher national technical certification in one of the eight fields designated by relevant law may apply for the urban agriculture manager qualification issued by the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs.

An urban agriculture manager is a specialist who provides urban farming education, interpretation, guidance and the dissemination of techniques to the public. Those who obtain the qualification can work as instructors at a variety of urban farming sites, including garden-plot teaching grounds, making it a practical opportunity for residents seeking a new arena of activity after retirement or for those preparing for a career in the field.

The course will run every Tuesday from August 18 to November 17 at the Incheon Agricultural Technology Center. Applications will be accepted over five days from August 3 to 7; applicants may submit their documents in person at the center or by email, and 30 people will be selected through a review process.

Lee Hee-jung, director of the city’s Agricultural Technology Center, said, ‘Through this program we will nurture specialized urban farming personnel and revitalize urban agriculture in Incheon, further advancing the social functions that agriculture within the city can offer.’
