The Incheon Metropolitan Government (Mayor Park Chan-dae) will launch the ‘Incheon Happy Culture Ticket’ this October, revamping its former ‘Thousand-Won Culture Ticket’ so that all residents can enjoy a wide range of culture close to their everyday lives. The initiative aims to enhance cultural accessibility by broadly offering performances, sports and tourism to some 6,000 residents.

The Incheon Metropolitan Government announced that it will run the ‘Incheon Happy Culture Ticket’ program for some 6,000 residents, drawing on the significance of October as both Citizens’ Day and Culture Month. Following the first-half program in May, which centered on arts performances, the second half diversifies its offerings to include performances, sports and tourism.

The heart of this revamp lies in the direction reflected by its new name. To capture the program’s aim of broadening residents’ opportunities to enjoy culture, the city changed the former ‘Thousand-Won Culture Ticket’ to the ‘Happy Culture Ticket.’ The name signals that all residents can encounter and enjoy diverse cultural content more closely in their daily lives.

The ‘Happy Culture Ticket’ was first introduced in October last year. At the time, it linked performances, professional football, the city tour bus and the Wolmi Sea Train, providing cultural, sports and tourism programs to some 5,000 people, including residents, youths and the culturally underserved. Starting this year, it has been expanded into first- and second-half phases, tied to Family Month in May and Citizens’ Day in October.

The October program widens the range of choices so that everyone, from children to adults, can take part. At the Incheon Culture & Arts Center, a Japanese shadow-play company with a tradition stretching back more than 70 years will present its work ‘Hand Shadow Fantasy ANIMARE’ four times from October 29 to 31. Ticket reservations open at 2 p.m. on September 4.

On October 15, Incheon Citizens’ Day, the Incheon New Philharmonic Orchestra will take the stage at the Arts Center Incheon. Commemorating the 62nd Citizens’ Day and the 23rd anniversary of the IFEZ’s establishment, the concert opens reservations at 2 p.m. on September 7.

Cultural venues in the old downtown are also taking part. On October 24, the Subong Culture Center will present ‘Deulsseok Deulsseok Yeonhui Pan! Nori Pan!’, a traditional performance combining pungmul, pansori and acrobatics, while the Munhak Theater will stage ‘Fragments,’ a play revisiting the wounds of war and separation, three times on October 2 and 3.

In sports, the program expands viewing opportunities for young people. It will support youths aged 13 to 18 in attending the Incheon FC versus Pohang match at 4:30 p.m. on October 9, with reservations opening at 2 p.m. on October 5. In addition, a cultural experience program combining a ride on the Wolmi Sea Train with a museum visit will be arranged for local children’s centers and facilities. Applications for this will be received separately by the Transportation Corporation.

Details such as reservation schedules and how to use each program are available in the news section of the Incheon city website and on the websites of the participating venues.

The city plans to continue identifying participating venues and programs, developing the ‘Happy Culture Ticket’ into a leading Incheon model of resident-centered cultural welfare that enhances access to culture. A city official said, ‘The Happy Culture Ticket carries our commitment to ensuring that every resident can enjoy culture more often, more closely and more diversely,’ adding, ‘We will draw the participation of various cultural venues and programs to broaden residents’ choices, and continue to expand cultural welfare that people can feel in their everyday lives.’
