The Gwacheon National Science Museum has prepared programs that let every generation enjoy science in its own way, moving beyond the common notion that science museums are meant mainly for children and teenagers. The Gwacheon National Science Museum (Director Lee Chung-won) announced that throughout September it will run 《Sci-All 31 + Hangawi》, a lineup embracing everyone from toddlers and parents to adults and the Gold Generation aged 50 and over.

The name ‘Sci-All’ stands for ‘Science for All’ — science that belongs to everyone. The aim is to introduce the fresh appeal of the museum to adults and the middle-aged, who have long hesitated to visit, regarding it as a space for children and teenagers. The intent is clear: to shed the image of a learning space for a particular generation and establish the museum as an open cultural venue where anyone can discover the science that suits their own interests and tastes.
Accordingly, more than 31 programs — spanning exhibitions, education, lectures, astronomical observation, creative activities and events — will take place across the museum in September. A notable feature is the addition of tailored programs for toddlers and parents, guardians, adults and the Gold Generation, on top of the existing offerings.
Parents who visit the museum with their children become protagonists rather than mere spectators. At the 《Mom & Dad Brunch Club》, guardians enjoy brunch while listening to experts discuss education in the age of artificial intelligence and the future of society. The 《Kids Lounge》 for toddlers is designed to make a ‘first-ever science museum’ a special experience through a slow tour of the Natural History Hall and an autumn stroll in the ecological park. From September 3 to 6, the Insect Ecology Hall will run 《INSECT MBTI》, which matches visitors with an ‘alter-ego insect’ that resembles their own disposition.
Programs for adults have also been prepared. On September 30, a special program titled 《On Time》 begins with a tour of the Natural History Hall and goes on to explore time as expressed in music and literature, blending science, philosophy and art. In addition, a ‘generative-AI short-form contest’, in which participants create and submit an AI video of up to 30 seconds following a 15-second opening clip, runs from August 25 to October 16. Beyond these, exhibitions, lectures, education, creative workshops and events such as 《Exhibition Adventure: Book and Go》, 《Clatter-Clatter Motion Workshop》 and 《Scientists Who Cross the Line》 continue all through September.
During the Chuseok holiday, special programs will target holiday outing visitors. A pop-up zone called 《Changsin-dong @ Science Museum — Mallang-i Marketplace》 brings Changsin-dong, Korea’s leading toy district, and the popular squishy toy ‘mallang-i’ into the museum. Visitors can also take part in ‘scientific K-games’, which explore the scientific principles behind traditional games such as yut nori and tuho, and in a creative workshop, ‘Making Science Museum Yut Nori’. The idea is to turn the holiday into an occasion the whole family can enjoy together through hands-on science.
Lee Chung-won, director of the Gwacheon National Science Museum, said, ‘The science museum is not just a place for children and teenagers, but a space where anyone across all generations can discover the science that matches their own interests and tastes.’ He added, ‘From a toddler’s first science museum to a parent’s brunch, the Gold Generation’s journey through music and science, and adults’ science nights and Hangawi, I hope this September will be a month in which everyone discovers at least one piece of science that matters to them.’
