Ongjin-gun County Receives 100,000 Hygiene Gloves, 200 Sets of Children’s Clothing as Private Donations Continue

Suwajin's Sarang Deohagi and Green Chemical Co. donate supplies on Sept. 9 for social welfare facilities and vulnerable residents in the county

Ongjin-gun County (Governor Jang Jeong-min) has received a large donation of daily necessities from a private organization and a company, which it will use to support local social welfare facilities and vulnerable residents. The county said Wednesday that it held a donation ceremony on Sept. 9 after receiving the goods from Suwajin’s Sarang Deohagi (Chairman Ahn Sang-soo), an incorporated association, and Green Chemical Co. (CEO Kim Yong-young).

The donated items consist of 100,000 hygiene gloves and 200 sets of Blue Dog children’s clothing. Hygiene gloves are heavily consumed across welfare facility operations, including meal services and sanitation management, while the children’s clothing will provide immediate help to families shouldering child-rearing burdens. Although the donation is in kind rather than cash, the substantial quantities mean the support is expected to have a tangible impact on the ground.

The donation was organized with the aim of broadening the culture of sharing within the local community and turning concern for neighbors into concrete action. The county plans to distribute the goods to social welfare facilities in its jurisdiction so that they can be put to good use in facility operations and support for vulnerable groups.

It is also notable that the donors are a local organization and a local company. Because Ongjin-gun County is made up of islands, procuring and delivering goods takes more time and money, and voluntary in-kind support from the private sector has played a role in filling gaps left by public welfare budgets.

An official at Suwajin’s Sarang Deohagi said, “We prepared these goods in the hope of being of some help to neighbors in need in the local community,” adding, “We will continue to show interest and provide support so that we can practice sharing together with the local community going forward.”

Ongjin-gun County Governor Jang Jeong-min said, “I sincerely thank Suwajin’s Sarang Deohagi and Green Chemical Co. for donating these goods with warm hearts for the local community,” adding, “We will make sure the donated items are delivered to where they are needed in the region so that the meaning of warm sharing shines even brighter.”

Whether donated goods actually reach the welfare facilities that need them, and in a timely manner, determines the success of such sharing efforts. As the county has announced plans for distribution through facilities in its jurisdiction, the results of that distribution and the record of how the goods are used are expected to serve as the basis for attracting follow-up donations.
