The Incheon Metropolitan Government announced that it will hold an Onnuri gift certificate rebate event at traditional markets from Sept. 16 to 20, in a move to boost consumption of domestic farm, livestock and fishery products and to ease the burden of grocery prices on residents ahead of the upcoming Chuseok holiday. The aim is to help both consumers and traditional market merchants at a time when demand for fresh food surges before the holiday and the pressure of rising prices grows.
The event is divided into farm and livestock products and fishery products, and will take place at a total of 33 traditional markets. The rebate event for farm and livestock products will run at 13 markets, including Sinpo International Market, Songhyeon Market, Singi-Nambu General Market, Toji Geumgo Market, Yongnam Market, Songdo Yeokjeon Market, Guwol Wholesale Traditional Market, Bupyeong General Market, Ilsin Market, Gyesan Market, Livestock Market, Gajwa Market and Jeongseojin Central Market.
The rebate event for fishery products will be held at 20 markets, including Ganghwa Pungmul Market, Incheon General Fish Market, Sinheung Market, Seokbawi Market, Yonghyeon Market, Incheon Nambu General Market and Singi Market, Yongnam Market, Ongnyeon Market, Guwol Market and Moraenae Traditional Market, Mansu Market, Jangseungbaegi Traditional Market, Soraepogu Traditional Fish Market, Soraepogu General Fish Market, Bupyeong General, Bupyeong Kkang and Jinheung General markets, Jakjeon Market, Gyesan Market, Gyeyangsan Traditional Market, Gangnam Market, Jeongseojin Central Market, and Geobuk Market and Singeobuk Market. In the Ganghwa area, Ganghwa Pungmul Market is included in the fishery products rebate event.
Under the rebate scheme, consumers who purchase fresh domestic farm, livestock and fishery products during the event period receive up to 30 percent of their purchase amount back in Onnuri gift certificates. The rebate is capped at 20,000 won per person and is paid on a sliding scale according to the purchase amount. Purchases of 34,000 won or more but less than 67,000 won earn 10,000 won in certificates, while purchases of 67,000 won or more earn 20,000 won. However, the event may end early if the allocated budget is used up, so residents wishing to take part are advised to hurry.
To receive the rebate, consumers should bring the receipt for purchases made during the event period along with an ID card, credit card or other form of identity verification, and visit a rebate booth set up at each market. The Onnuri gift certificates received through the rebate can be used again at traditional markets, which is expected to keep holiday spending circulating within the local commercial district.
Kim Ik-jung, director of the citys Agriculture, Fisheries and Food Bureau, said, ‘We hope this rebate event will ease the household burden on residents ahead of the Chuseok holiday and help boost traditional markets and the consumption of domestic farm, livestock and fishery products.’
