Ganghwa-gun (Governor Park Yong-cheol) is hosting a variety of reading-culture events to help local residents feel more at home using their libraries during September, the nation’s Reading Month. This year’s cultural program runs under the slogan ‘Just Because I Love Books’ at Ganghwa Library and Jihye-ui Sup Library.

Ganghwa-gun announced that throughout September it will offer reading-culture programs spanning performances, hands-on activities, and exhibitions at Ganghwa Library and Jihye-ui Sup Library. The aim is to reintroduce the library as a cultural space to residents who have come to feel that books and libraries are distant from everyday life.
Ganghwa Library will host performance programs such as an author talk and a science magic show, along with a hands-on ‘Make Your Own Slang-i’ activity. In particular, throughout September the library is holding a special ‘Amnesty Month for Overdue Borrowers’ event, in which returning overdue books lifts any suspension on borrowing, so that residents whose library access had been restricted due to overdue items can use the services again without pressure.
Jihye-ui Sup Library, following its three-dimensional picture-book reading play held on the 6th, will run an exhibition of original artwork from the picture book ‘Mr. Anything and Mr. Whatever, the Ant Fairy’s Gift’ throughout September. Because visitors can view the picture book’s original illustrations in person, strong interest is expected from children and family groups.
Detailed schedules and application methods for each program are available on the Ganghwa-gun Library website (http://lib.ganghwa.go.kr), and residents may register in person or by phone according to each event’s application procedure.
Ganghwa-gun Governor Park Yong-cheol said, ‘I hope the various cultural programs prepared for Reading Month will give local residents an opportunity to feel closer to books and libraries.’ He added, ‘We will continue to expand reading-culture programs that anyone in the county can enjoy, so that a culture of reading takes root in everyday life.’
