Incheon Provides Competency and Safety Training for Medical Aid Staff and Case Managers

From CPR practice and infectious disease prevention to responding to at-risk beneficiaries… strengthening health management for recipients

Posted Article No. 59763

The Incheon Metropolitan Government (Mayor Park Chan-dae) held competency-building and safety training on the 29th in the main conference room of city hall for medical aid officials from the districts and counties, as well as medical aid case managers. The aim is to raise the overall quality of health management services for vulnerable groups by strengthening practical response capabilities in areas ranging from emergency response and infectious disease prevention to the management of at-risk beneficiaries.

The training was divided into two parts: safety training and competency building.

The safety training session combined hands-on cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) practice with infectious disease prevention education. Participants directly learned the basic response methods that can be put into action immediately when an emergency arises, and reviewed the infectious disease prevention guidelines to be observed in fieldwork. Given the nature of the work, which frequently involves face-to-face contact with beneficiaries, the program was built around hands-on practice, reflecting the fact that an official’s own response capability is directly linked to the safety of those they serve.

The competency-building session that followed focused on the psychological characteristics of at-risk beneficiaries, methods for detecting warning signs, and situation-specific coping strategies. This is practical knowledge for identifying beneficiaries in crisis due to isolation or mental difficulties at an early stage and intervening appropriately.

At present, 32 medical aid case managers are active in Incheon. They handle systematic health management support tasks, including counseling and education for medical aid beneficiaries, coordination of home-based medical aid services, and monitoring of medication adherence.

Since a considerable number of medical aid beneficiaries belong to vulnerable groups who suffer from chronic illnesses or live alone, the expertise of the officials and case managers who directly manage them is a key factor determining service quality. This training focused on making the health management support that beneficiaries receive in their daily lives even more thorough, by simultaneously reinforcing both emergency and infection response capabilities and the ability to manage at-risk beneficiaries.
