Twenty young people from Incheon walked through the historic Open Port district and Songdo in person, experiencing the Korea-China and global culture woven into the city and sharing it with domestic and international audiences via social media (SNS). The Incheon Metropolitan Government (Mayor Park Chan-dae) announced on the 26th that it had wrapped up the ‘In-China Road: Exploring Korea-China and Global Culture in Incheon’ program, in which a youth exploration group took part.

The Incheon Metropolitan Government (Mayor Park Chan-dae) announced on the 26th that it had successfully concluded the ‘In-China Road: Exploring Korea-China and Global Culture in Incheon’ program, which drew 20 young participants including university students.
The program was organized in conjunction with the ‘2026 In-China Forum International Conference.’ Its aim was to have young people experience Incheon’s modern and contemporary history firsthand — from the Open Port district, where the traces of the port’s opening remain, to the international city of Songdo — and to share that experience online with audiences at home and abroad.
The exploration group was selected from among university student applicants through a fair review process. The participants were divided into five teams of four each, roaming the Open Port district and Songdo to examine Incheon’s transformation and value as it evolved from a modern port city into today’s global city.
After completing their tour, participants gathered at the Incheon Youth Culture Creation Center, operated by the Incheon Foundation for Arts and Culture, to share videos and photos documenting the major landmarks and to exchange their impressions. The on-site photos and videos taken by the participants were introduced to domestic and international audiences through social media. The heart of the event was allowing the image of Incheon, discovered through the eyes of young people, to spread voluntarily across online spaces.
Seo Mi-suk, head of the city’s International Cooperation Division, said, ‘It was a meaningful occasion in which young people could walk through the Open Port district and Songdo themselves and personally feel the history of how Incheon has met the world and transformed into a global city.’ She added, ‘We hope the appeal of Incheon that these young people discovered will spread at home and abroad through social media, and that this kind of experience and communication will become a small starting point for building a new Korea-China relationship.’
Along with this exploration program, the city of Incheon runs a range of citizen and youth participation programs linked to the In-China Forum International Conference, including the In-China Citizens’ Academy, In-China feature columns, a youth idea thesis competition, and online promotional supporters.
The In-China Forum was launched in 2016 to consolidate Incheon’s capacity for exchange and cooperation with China. It carries out research and surveys, networking, and citizen participation and promotional projects throughout the year, and each year it shares its achievements and explores new directions for Korea-China cooperation through an international conference.
The ‘2026 In-China Forum International Conference,’ co-hosted by the city of Incheon and the Chinese Embassy in Korea, will be held on September 8 at Songdo Convensia under the theme ‘Seeking New Korea-China Cooperation in the Era of the AX, GX, and CX Great Transformation.’
