Ongjin-gun County (Governor Jang Jeong-min) held a two-day training program from the 19th to the 20th to enhance the expertise of personnel providing customized senior care services and to prevent burnout from work burdens. The course, titled “2026 Customized Senior Care Service Worker Capacity-Building and Burnout Prevention Training,” took place at the Harbor Park Hotel in Incheon and around Jemulpo-gu District, Incheon, with 60 service personnel participating.

The training was organized to strengthen care workers’ ability to respond in the field and to find ways to provide customized care services that reflect the special characteristics of island areas. Ongjin-gun, which has many islands, has different conditions in each township (myeon), so the situations encountered at care sites also vary. This is why the county made a separate effort to train its workers.

The training was practice-oriented. Participants shared field experience accumulated in various care areas, including specialized services and short-term intensive services for discharged patients. The goal was to provide more professional and attentive services to older adults. Key cases that may arise in actual service delivery, along with ways to respond, were also reviewed.

Participants shared difficulties in the field that vary according to local conditions in each township and the characteristics of service recipients, along with cases in which those difficulties were resolved. They also discussed ways to improve services in order to make them more useful in practice.

The training also included time to care for the workers’ own well-being. Through a healing program and time for communication and exchange among workers, they had an opportunity to relieve work stress and recharge emotionally. This helped build bonds and cooperation among service personnel and laid the groundwork for providing care services steadily and reliably.

“In urban areas, flexible responses to a variety of situations are needed at care sites depending on local conditions and the characteristics of recipients,” said Ongjin-gun Governor Jang Jeong-min. “We will continue to provide training and support to enhance the expertise of service personnel and prevent worker burnout, thereby creating a care environment in which older adults can live with peace of mind.”

The quality of care depends heavily on the capabilities and condition of the workers who meet older adults directly in the field. The training is expected to serve as an opportunity to improve the stability of care services as experienced by local older adults.
