  • From November 4 to December 30, every Wednesday at 2 p.m., at the Cheonghak Art Hall of the Cheonghak Culture Center – The Yeonsu Cultural Foundation (CEO Kang Shin-won) will run “Culture Day, Wednesday ‘Yeonsu Classic Film Theater’” at the Cheonghak Art Hall of the Cheonghak Culture Center from November to December, so that local residents can enjoy culture and the arts close to their daily lives. The “Yeonsu Classic Film Theater” was organized to provide Yeonsu-gu residents, including local seniors and socially isolated households, with opportunities to enjoy culture.

In particular, the screenings will be free of charge so that residents can watch familiar films without the burden of admission fees, offering them a chance to comfortably enjoy cultural life close to home. A distinctive feature of this year’s lineup is that, beyond simply screening films, monthly themes have been organized so that audiences can share their own memories and emotions through stories about the era-specific sensibilities, music, and love that the films embody.

The films were also selected based on the results of a prior survey of resident demand, taking into account preferred viewing times, genres, and opinions on Korean versus foreign films to improve the accessibility of the program. In November, under the theme “Autumn and Love,” the program will present works depicting the many faces of love, including youth, first love, and parting. Through stories that resonate across time and familiar classics, the program aims to give audiences a chance to look back on the years gone by and share together the emotion that film conveys.

In December, under the theme “Winter and Music,” films that highlight music and song will be screened. Through memorable songs and striking scenes from the films, the program will offer a sense of the atmosphere of Christmas and the year-end season, and provide a warm cultural experience through music that remains familiar across generations. The Yeonsu Cultural Foundation plans to promote the program in cooperation with related institutions such as local senior welfare centers and comprehensive social welfare centers, and to support participation by as many residents as possible.

In particular, the foundation plans to continue cooperating with the local community so that the program can also reach residents who find it relatively difficult to visit cultural facilities or who have few opportunities for cultural activities in daily life. A Yeonsu Cultural Foundation official said, “Film is a cultural and artistic content that anyone, across generations and eras, can relate to and share memories through,” adding, “We hope the Yeonsu Classic Film Theater becomes a small cultural resting place for residents in their daily lives, and an occasion for them to discover the joy of enjoying culture and the arts close to home.”

The official also added, “Going forward, we will continue working to expand residents’ cultural rights through cultural programs that reflect local characteristics and resident demand, so that anyone can enjoy culture and the arts close to home in their daily lives.” Meanwhile, the “Yeonsu Classic Film Theater” will run as a pilot program every Wednesday at 2 p.m. from November 4 to December 30 (closed on December 2), and will officially open from February next year.

Any Yeonsu-gu resident can attend free of charge, and detailed screening schedules and viewing information can be found on the Yeonsu Cultural Foundation’s website. Attachments: 1 copy each of the poster and screening schedule.
