Jemulpo-gu speeds up environmental and climate adaptation plans to prepare for heat waves and torrential rain

Interim briefing held at Songnim office on the 2nd; district to assess local environmental conditions and finalize a practical plan by December

Jemulpo-gu District (Mayor Kim Chan-jin) in Incheon is speeding up work on a mid- to long-term blueprint that assesses local environmental conditions and sets out its response to the climate crisis. The district said it held an interim briefing on the “Research Service for Establishing an Environmental Plan and Climate Crisis Adaptation Measures” at Galmaegi Hall in its Songnim office building on the 2nd.

The research project was designed to closely examine Jemulpo-gu’s environmental conditions and local characteristics, and to set future management directions and measures to respond to the climate crisis.

Participants at the interim briefing discussed the environmental problems Jemulpo-gu faces and ways to address them. They also reviewed measures in each sector to prepare for climate change, including heat waves and torrential rain. The district said it focused in particular on developing environmental policies that residents can directly feel in their daily lives.

The district plans to revise the plan by fully reflecting the opinions raised at the meeting. Based on that input, it intends to create a sustainable environmental blueprint that residents can support and to complete a practical plan for an effective climate crisis response by December.

“Living environment and climate have a major impact on residents’ ability to live pleasant and healthy lives,” Mayor Kim Chan-jin said. “Through the environment and climate research project, we will improve residents’ living conditions.”

Because heat waves and torrential rain directly affect residents’ health and safety, the key question once the plan is finalized in December will be how far its specific measures are carried out in residents’ everyday lives.
