Aging Stairs on Yeongjong’s Yedanpo Trail Replaced, Improving Pedestrian Safety for Residents and Tourists

Yeongjong-gu District spends 80 million won to remove 61 round-log steps and install 111 new timber steps; Mayor Son Hwa-jeong inspects site for safety on the 29th

Yeongjong-gu District (Mayor Son Hwa-jeong) in Incheon announced on the 30th that it has finished repair work to replace the worn-out stairs on the Yedanpo Dulle-gil, a walking trail that runs along the West Sea coastline. With the old sections where walkers risked losing their footing now rebuilt, both local residents and visiting tourists can walk the trail more safely than before.

The project cost 80 million won. The district began work in August this year and removed 61 old, unsafe round-log steps along with 35㎡ of block paving. In their place, it installed 111 new timber steps designed for easier walking. The increase from 61 to 111 steps reflects an overall redesign of the walking route, allowing people to go up and down sloped sections in smaller, more even steps.

Yeongjong-gu District said the project focused on creating a trail environment that anyone can use comfortably and without difficulty. The trail stairs serve as an everyday exercise space for nearby residents who use them daily, and they shape weekend visitors’ first impression of Yeongjong. Because worn stairs can be especially difficult for older people and families with young children, the repairs bear directly on the safety of users across all age groups.

According to the district, the completed work has strengthened the Yedanpo Dulle-gil’s standing as a safe place to relax, where people can take a break from daily life and unwind.

Mayor Son Hwa-jeong visited the completed site with relevant officials on the morning of the 29th. Son personally inspected the newly installed stairs and other trail facilities to check their safety.

“With this repair work, residents and tourists can now enjoy Yeongjong’s beautiful ocean views in a safer environment,” Mayor Son Hwa-jeong said. “As Yeongjong works to become a global tourism city, we will continue to put residents and visitors at the center of our administration and provide safe, pleasant spaces for rest and relaxation.”

Visitors call the Yedanpo Dulle-gil the “Jeju Island of Incheon.” A single course offers both a cozy forest path and wide views of the West Sea, and its sunsets are especially beautiful, making it a favorite outing spot for couples and families.

For a spot that draws a steady stream of visitors, keeping its facilities safe directly supports the area’s appeal as a tourist destination. The stair repairs are seen as part of an effort by Yeongjong-gu District, which has set its sights on becoming a “global tourism city,” to improve both residents’ living spaces and its tourism resources.
